The Process

- Furnace is turned off at breaker, gas is switched to PILOT setting.
- Plastic bag is placed over the filter to divide the system into supply and return sections.
- A mat is placed over the coils to prevent debris buildup.
- Large HEPA vacuum unit is attached to the furnace at plenum and turned on.
- All vent covers are removed and cardboard is placed over the registers.
- Starting at farthest register away, each supply line is cleaned first with a whip, then blown out using highly compressed air through a sweep.
- The trunk lines are whipped and then swept.
- Each register grill is cleaned with a detergent solution and a nylon brush and then reinstalled.
- The returns are whipped and swept in the same way, and the covers are scrubbed and replaced.
- The coils are cleaned with an EPA registered disinfectant.
- If accessible, the blower is vacuumed. (This can only be done if the blower can be reached without removing the motor or dismantling the system.)
- Access ports in the ducting are plugged and patched, sealed with HVAC tape.
- The old filter is removed in the plastic bag and a new filter is installed. This filter is to be provided by the homeowner.
- The furnace breaker is switched back on and gas units are set to ON.
- Expect the job to last 3-4 hours for an average sized house.
