Spring Floor Care:
Maintain, Defer Replacement
Spring is here again, and with it comes the usual cleaning and maintenance of all the household areas that have taken a beating over the winter. The most obvious of these areas are the floors in your home. Heavy boots, salt, mud and slush can wear the finish off of your hardwood, leave traffic lanes in your carpet and grind dirt into your grout lines. With the current economic uncertainty, why spend a fortune on new floors? For a small fraction of what it would cost to replace these floor coverings, ServiceMaster of Alexandria can restore them and extend the life of your flooring, saving money and time. Though we deal with virtually all types of flooring, we will focus on the three most common ones here, giving you a brief explanation of the process that we use. All of our equipment is top of the line and our technicians are IICRC certified to deliver the clean you expect and the service that you deserve. We also have certified Green products with no odors or dye for nearly every application.
Carpet: Carpet cleaning companies are a dime a dozen, but our equipment and training set us apart from the competition. Our technicians have a minimum of three years of experience on our Butler truck-mounted extractors. These powerful, V-8 driven cleaning machines deliver 212 degrees of water and extract virtually everything back out, leaving your carpets to dry in only a few hours. By pre-treating the carpet and then extracting with only hot water, we leave no residue behind that can re-soil your carpet faster. Of course we pre-vacuum and move all light furniture to clean as much area as possible, and then place all of your items on blocks and pads to keep it off of the carpeting until fully dry. Our wide array of spot treating products can remove almost any blemish, and more than one of our customers has expressed disbelief at the “like new” state of their carpeting when we were finished. We would also be happy to pick up your oriental carpeting and area rugs, clean them in our facility, and return them at your convenience.
Wood Floors: True hardwood floors are a durable, attractive flooring that require little regular maintenance beyond vacuuming and an occasional mopping. Eventually, the finish begins to dull and wear off and the gloss fades. The floors are perfectly serviceable, and unless they are severely scratched or worn there is usually no need for an expensive and messy sanding and re-staining procedure. ServiceMaster has a simple, two-step process that will rejuvenate your wood floors and bring them back to life. First we move the furniture and vacuum the floor; damp mopping if needed to remove surface soil. Next, the wood is cleaned with a mild abrasive pad which removes the existing finish and deeper soil. Finally, two to three layers of glossy finish are applied with a special applicator, restoring the glow and providing a protective layer to the wood.
Tile and Grout: Kitchens, foyers and bathrooms are almost always finished in a tile pattern accented by light grout lines. While attractive and very durable, the grout lines are highly susceptible to darkening and staining from traffic, spills and water exposure. ServiceMaster of Alexandria can return the color of the grout to its original shade and then seal the surface to help prevent re-soiling. The process can be used on floors as well as tiled walls. First, all of the furniture is removed from the area. Next, a Green certified cleaning agent is worked into the tile and grout with an abrasive pad. Finally, a special self-extracting pressure cleaner is fitted to the Butler system or one of our powerful portable units. 212 degree water is forced at 1200psi into the grout, lifting out soil and extracting the solution at the same time. The process is so effective that virtually no moisture is even left behind! Once the grout has been cleaned, a sealant is applied to the surface in a thin coat and the excess wiped up with a clean towel. Once it has dried, the floor is well protected against future stains and becomes much easier to maintain.
Whatever type of flooring you have, ServiceMaster of Alexandria has the knowledge, experience and specialized equipment to restore it. We can even clean and refinish VCT and clean and seal concrete floors.
